In February 1938, Popular Mechanics Magazine printed an article claiming hemp to be the next “Billion-Dollar Crop.”
I was curious, what would a billion dollars in 1938 translate to in 2013? I looked it up on a U.S. inflation calculator and that number looks like this: $1,656,056,737,588.65
To put that in perspective, $1.00 in 1938 had the same buying power as $16.56 in 2013.
THAT’S A LOT OF MONEY!!!! It would be like growing money on trees!
It’s not like our economy could use it or anything like that (she says sarcastically).
