There was a great article in the L.A. Times this week announcing the California Medical Association’s stance on the legalization of cannabis. This makes sense since the American Medical Association was never in favor the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Towards the end of the article however, they did quote one physician who is straight out against legalization: Dr. Robert DuPont
Dr. Robert DuPont, an M.D. and professor of psychiatry at Georgetown Medical School, said the association’s call for legalization showed “a reckless disregard of the public health. I think it’s going to lead to more use, and that, to me, is a public health concern. I’m not sure they’ve thought through what the implications of legalization would be.”
If you are at all familiar with the real reason hemp is illegal today, the name DuPont should ring a bell.
At first I thought, could this be a coincidence? When I researched Dr. DuPont’s history, there it was! He was Richard Nixon’s Drug Czar. Like my husband always says, “Follow the trail of money.”
