Burying your loved ones in biodegradable shrouds takes sustainable fashion to a whole new level. Designer Pia Interlandi creates ‘beautiful garments’ that disintegrate with the body

“When I say I make fashion for the grave, people think I’m trying to make the dead look sexy. That’s not what it’s about. It’s about creating garments that are designed for burial. I use natural materials in my shrouds: hemp, for example. They protect the body for the funeral, but, once buried, the fibres break down. The garments are really beautiful. They can be embroidered, or have pockets to hold trinkets.”
