Tai Ma

The Chinese character ”Ma” was the earliest name for hemp. By the 10th Century, A.D., Ma had become the generic term for fibers of all kinds, including jute and ramie. By then, the word for hemp had become “Tai-ma” or “Dai-ma” meaning “great hemp.” ~ The Emperor Wears No Clothes, pg. 26, 12th ed.
